Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on 15 August 2026 declared that the state's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has doubled over the past six years, as he outlined sweeping progress across governance, agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure at the 80th Independence Day celebrations held at the Assam Rifles ground in Agartala. Addressing a gathering after hoisting the National Flag, Saha said the state's development agenda is centred on creating economic opportunities for nearly 40 lakh people.

Investment and Governance Milestones

At the recently concluded Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, the state signed 468 MoUs involving potential investments of around ₹1.32 lakh crore across major sectors, Saha claimed. He also highlighted that Tripura is the only state in the country to have successfully implemented e-office from the highest level of state administration down to the panchayat level. The state has ranked first nationally for two consecutive years in the compliance reduction and deregulation exercise, he noted. Tripura has also received more than 360 national and regional awards over the past eight years for good governance, transparency, and efficient administration.

Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Economy

On the farm front, more than 26,800 farmers have taken up organic farming, while around 2.30 lakh farmers received direct financial assistance under the PM-KISAN scheme. A further 56,600 farmers were provided loans amounting to ₹438 crore through Kisan Credit Cards. The state government has extended insurance coverage to more than 21,000 animals and supported 1.1 lakh fish farmers and fish workers. Cage fish farming has been introduced at scale in Dumbur reservoir and Sitadara Lake. Nearly 4.96 lakh rural women have been organised into 55,693 self-help groups under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, backed by ₹837 crore in community funds and ₹2,400 crore in bank credit.

Health, Education and Social Welfare

In healthcare, more than 5.7 lakh beneficiaries have received cashless treatment under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, with an expenditure of over ₹307 crore. The state has launched a campaign to screen more than 15 lakh people aged above 30 years for non-communicable diseases including hypertension, diabetes, and cancer. Annual MBBS seats in the state have increased to 500, and a Tripura University of Health Sciences is under development. In education, pre-primary sections have been introduced in 411 schools, benefiting more than 21,000 children, while 125 Vidyajyoti schools have been established as centres of excellence. More than 1.64 lakh bicycles have been distributed among Class 9 students, and financial assistance has been provided to 63,249 students for purchasing smartphones under the Chief Minister's Yuva Yogayog Yojana.

Infrastructure and Connectivity

Modernisation of Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat and Udaipur railway stations is underway under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, and Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) services have been introduced on the Agartala-Karimganj route. A total of 104 new mobile tower sites have been commissioned under the 4G Saturation Project. Irrigation now covers 1.24 lakh hectares of the state's 2.55 lakh hectares of cultivable land, and drinking water has been provided to 6.49 lakh rural households. Tourism infrastructure is also being expanded, including development under the Matabari Tourism Circuit and facilities around Tripura Sundari Temple, Unakoti, Chabimura and Amar Sagar.

Law, Order and the Road Ahead

On the law and order front, the state has intensified its anti-drug campaign, recording a seizure of narcotics that led to 542 cases under the NDPS Act and the arrest of 858 people. Sepahijala district was awarded as the country's best district panchayat under the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar, and Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat in Unakoti was recognised as the best healthy panchayat. Chief Minister Saha called upon citizens to work collectively towards building a 'Developed Tripura, Developed India' by 2047.
