Agartala, July 1 (NationPress) The government of Tripura, with financial backing from the Union Tourism Ministry, has launched a significant project worth Rs 97.70 crore to create a 51-Shakti Peethas Park in southern Tripura, as announced by the state’s Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday.
The planned park is of immense religious importance, located just four kilometers from the ancient Tripura Sundari temple, which has been revered for 524 years as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas worshipped by Hindus in the Gomati district of Udaipur town.
During a site visit, the Tourism Minister stated that Chief Minister Manik Saha would inaugurate the foundation for the 51-Shakti Peethas Park at Banduar, located 68 km south of Agartala, on July 10.
A representative from the Tourism Department revealed that the Union Tourism Ministry has allocated Rs 97.70 crore to develop and safeguard the spiritual heritage, with the proposed park site in Banduar being a tranquil village enveloped by lush foliage and a peaceful atmosphere.
Under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) initiative and funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), various tourism projects, including eco-tourism, totaling Rs 350 crore are being executed in Tripura, Chowdhury noted to the press.
Chief Minister Manik Saha has previously emphasized the importance of making tourist attractions in the state more appealing and has requested financial aid from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for establishing a seaplane service at Narikelkunja on the Dumboor Lake in Gomati district.
This proposal was discussed during the second meeting of the high-level task force formed by the DoNER Ministry, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, aimed at promoting tourism in the northeastern region.
Dumboor Lake, situated 115 km south of Agartala, is a picturesque water body formed by the merging of the Raima and Sarma rivers. Boating opportunities are available on the lake, and one of its islands, Narkel Kunja, has become a premier tourist spot in Tripura.
