Tripura recruits 7,104 teachers since 2018, CM Saha hands out 865 PG appointments
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday, 14 May distributed appointment letters to 865 postgraduate teachers at a state-level function in Agartala, declaring that the government has recruited a total of 7,104 teachers under the School Education Department through a transparent process since 2018. Saha, who also holds the School Education portfolio, used the occasion to reaffirm the state's commitment to merit-based hiring and modern pedagogy.
Key Developments at the Appointment Ceremony
The function was organised by the School Education Department at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. Of the 865 postgraduate teachers who received appointment letters, Chief Minister Saha personally handed over letters to 34 newly recruited teachers. Senior officials present included School Education Department Secretary Milind Ramteke, Director of School Education Rajib Dutta, and State Council of Educational Research and Training Director L. Darlong.
What the Government Said on Transparent Recruitment
Addressing the gathering, Saha stressed that the recruitment process is driven entirely by merit. 'Along with filling vacant posts, the government is also creating new positions in different departments to provide employment opportunities to educated unemployed youth in a transparent manner. At present, no one needs recommendations to secure a government job. Appointments are being made strictly on the basis of merit and qualifications,' he said.
He added that the state's approach to recruitment mirrors its infrastructure development — planned and transparent. 'Just as the state government is developing infrastructure with proper planning and transparency, the recruitment process is also being carried out in the same manner,' Saha said.
Broader Employment Push Since 2018
Beyond teacher recruitment, Saha disclosed that since 2018, as many as 21,825 educated unemployed youth have been provided government jobs across various departments — including Education — through transparent procedures. An additional 24,078 people have been engaged on contractual and outsourcing bases during the same period, he added.
Focus on Modern and Effective Teaching
The Chief Minister urged newly appointed teachers to understand the mindset and psychology of students, foster positive relationships in classrooms, and integrate technology into their teaching methods alongside conventional textbook learning. 'Teachers play a crucial role in shaping future generations, and it should be a matter of pride for them when students perform well in examinations and grow into responsible citizens,' Saha said.
The state government has signalled that filling vacancies in all departments remains a priority, with the Education sector receiving sustained attention through regular recruitment cycles. Further appointments across other departments are expected to follow as the government continues its stated transparency-first hiring mandate.
