Agartala, Feb 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Tuesday that the state government is taking significant steps to create an international skill centre and a foreign language school, aimed at providing the youth of Tripura with enhanced global employment opportunities.
While speaking at the 3rd Regional Workshop organized under the State Support Mission of NITI Aayog at a hotel in Agartala, he emphasized that governance transcends mere institutions and processes; it is fundamentally about elevating the quality of life for citizens and ensuring that developmental benefits reach every corner of society.
“Ultimately, governance is about enhancing every citizen's quality of life and ensuring development extends to the last mile, a principle highlighted by our Prime Minister,” stated the Chief Minister. He remarked that the State Support Mission signifies a transformative shift in India's federal governance structure.
Saha elaborated that this mission fosters a collaborative framework between the Centre and states, recognizing states as equal partners in the nation's developmental narrative rather than just implementing bodies.
“The State Support Mission empowers states to bolster their State Institutes of Transformation, which are crucial for policy formulation, outcome tracking, and inter-sector collaboration. The mission reinforces the idea that sustainable socio-economic progress is anchored in robust institutions and aligns state visions with the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047,” he explained.
The Chief Minister pointed out that states and Union Territories are currently at various development stages concerning their State Institutes of Transformation, reflecting unique governance and socio-economic landscapes. “In light of this diversity, NITI Aayog has initiated regional workshops as forums for peer learning, idea exchange, and collective problem-solving. Hosting the third regional workshop for eastern and northeastern states in Tripura demonstrates NITI Aayog’s faith in the region's expanding policy capabilities and Tripura’s readiness to contribute to national reform discussions,” he added.
He further remarked that Tripura has consistently prioritized good governance and institutional reform in its developmental approach over the past few years.
In a short time, the Tripura Institute for Transformation (TIFT) has positioned itself as a reform catalyst and a crucial link between policy goals and practical implementation.
“TIFT collaborates with prominent knowledge institutions to pinpoint Tripura's strengths, establish achievable objectives, and formulate sector-specific roadmaps. Over the last two years, it has been pivotal in tackling significant governance challenges and supporting government departments in policy development and business reforms,” the Chief Minister stated.
Saha reiterated that the upcoming international skill centre and foreign language school would equip the youth with essential skills for international employment.
“Previously, our youth had to seek work outside the state. Proficiency in foreign languages will facilitate their access to global job opportunities and enhance their communication effectiveness,” he mentioned.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to modern governance mechanisms, Saha announced the establishment of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) cell within the Good Governance Department to promote private investments while effectively distributing risks with the government.
He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged Tripura’s reform initiatives during a recent meeting in New Delhi. The state's business reform strategy was also presented to all states during the 5th Chief Secretaries’ Conference in December 2025.
“In January 2026, the Bihar government, alongside several other states, invited our officials to examine the Tripura model for ease of doing business,” the Chief Minister added.
Saha informed that the Jindal Group has initiated steel sheet production in the state, in addition to several private universities and medical and paramedical colleges being established in Tripura.
