Trump Indicates U.S. Will Soon Discover Iran's Willingness to Collaborate
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, March 31 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump indicated during a media discussion that the White House is set to determine if Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is open to collaborating with the United States "in about a week."
"We're going to find out," Trump stated in an exclusive interview with The New York Post. "I'll inform you that in about a week."
Trump characterized a significant upheaval within Iran, asserting that the previous leadership has been virtually eradicated and replaced by a new faction that he claims has been more amenable to cooperation, as reported by Xinhua citing the interview.
"There has been a complete regime change because the past regimes are gone, and we are engaging with an entirely new group of individuals," Trump asserted. "And thus far, they have been considerably more reasonable."
Meanwhile, Trump has consistently urged Iran to finalize a deal "before it's too late."
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated at a press briefing on Monday that Trump is optimistic about concluding a deal with Iran by April 6, the new deadline set after delaying airstrikes on Iran's energy facilities.
Leavitt also noted that Iranian officials involved in negotiations with Washington seem more rational, although she declined to identify them.
"These individuals are appearing more reasonable behind the scenes, in private discussions, than some of the previous leaders who are no longer with us," Leavitt remarked.
Earlier on Monday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned in an interview with Al Jazeera that "it's not entirely clear how decisions are being made within Iran" as Washington attempts to broker a deal to end the ongoing conflict.
Despite Trump's repeated assertions that negotiations with Iran are advancing positively, local analysts indicate that no significant developments have occurred, highlighting that continued military actions and reinforcements in the Middle East are further diminishing hopes for a rapid de-escalation.
Sunday marked one month since the onset of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. Trump issued a warning on Monday morning to "completely obliterate" all of Iran's electricity-generating facilities, oil wells, and Kharg Island if a deal is not reached soon.
