Trump Issues Stark Warning to Iran Over Hormuz Strait Mines
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, March 11 (NationPress) - US President Donald Trump cautioned Iran about potential military repercussions if it were to attempt mining the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. This statement came after US forces successfully targeted and eliminated 10 vessels suspected of laying mines in this crucial shipping route, heightening tensions in one of the globe's key energy passages.
In a post on social media, Trump stated that Washington was vigilantly observing any attempts to deploy mines in the narrow channel that connects the Persian Gulf to international energy markets.
“If Iran has deployed any mines in the Hormuz Strait, and we have no evidence of such actions, we demand their immediate removal!” Trump declared on Truth Social.
The US President warned Tehran that neglecting to eliminate any mines would lead to an unparalleled military response.
“If for any reason mines were placed, and they are not removed promptly, the military consequences for Iran will be unprecedented,” he asserted.
Trump also emphasized that the United States is ready to utilize advanced technologies and missile systems to thwart any mining efforts in this strategic passage.
“Moreover, we are employing the same technology and missile capabilities used against drug traffickers to permanently neutralize any boats or ships attempting to mine the Hormuz Strait,” he added.
“They will be dealt with swiftly and decisively. BE WARNED!”
Following the warning, Trump announced that US forces had already destroyed several vessels believed to be engaged in mine-laying activities.
“I’m pleased to inform you that within the last few hours, we have struck and completely annihilated 10 inactive mine-laying boats and/or ships, with more operations to follow!” he stated.
The operations were confirmed by US Central Command (CENTCOM), which reported that American military forces continued their strikes as part of a comprehensive campaign against Iranian maritime capabilities.
“Hundreds of air assets are relentlessly delivering significant combat power against the Iranian regime during Operation Epic Fury,” CENTCOM noted.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that these operations were executed under direct orders from the President and were aimed at safeguarding global shipping routes.
“At the directive of President Trump, CENTCOM has been systematically eliminating inactive mine-laying vessels in the Strait of Hormuz with ruthless precision,” Hegseth stated.
“We will not permit terrorists to threaten the Strait of Hormuz.”
He also issued a stern warning to Tehran: “To the weakened Iranian regime: you have officially been put on notice!”
CENTCOM reiterated that the military actions were designed to curtail Iran’s capacity to jeopardize commercial shipping and assert power at sea.
“US forces are degrading the Iranian regime's ability to project strength at sea and disrupt international shipping,” the command asserted.
“For years, Iranian forces have posed a threat to the freedom of navigation in waters vital to American, regional, and global security and prosperity.”
