Bhopal/New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) Senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, expressed his appreciation for the Union Budget for 2026-27 revealed on Sunday, describing it as a commitment towards constructing a developed India.
Chouhan emphasized that the Budget is poised to transform the conditions and future of both villages and farmers.
In an interview with IANS, Union Minister Chouhan pointed out that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman allocated Rs 1,62,671 crore for agriculture and allied sectors, aimed at enhancing the strength of Indian farming and ensuring farmers' self-reliance.
"This Budget will alter the fortunes of villages, the underprivileged, agriculture, and farmers," he noted. He further highlighted that a provision of Rs 1,62,671 crore has been made in the Budget for agriculture and allied sectors to foster development.
Additionally, he mentioned that Rs 2,73,108 crore has been earmarked for rural development, enabling villages to become vital growth engines.
Chouhan, who has served as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh four times, stated that the nation has achieved an impressive growth rate of nearly seven percent and significant advancements in poverty alleviation.
Moreover, he noted that the total budget for MGNREGA has increased from Rs 86,000 crore to over Rs 95,600 crore solely from the Central government's share for the 'Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin)', with the total surpassing Rs 1,51,000 crore when including state contributions.
He also underscored the focus on agricultural education and research, with a provision of Rs 9,967 crore allocated for agricultural education and research via the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
"The budget for the Department of Rural Development has seen a significant increase of 21 percent. I am pleased to announce that a substantial provision has been made in the total budget for rural development, including over Rs 55,600 crore for the Viksit Bharat Gram Yojana alone," he added.
Union Minister Chouhan remarked that this year's Budget encompasses generous provisions for the welfare of villages, the impoverished, farmers, young farmers, and especially our 'Lakhpati Didis' (women who have achieved millionaire status).
He conveyed that these provisions will be pivotal in constructing a developed India.
"Our 'Lakhpati Didis' in every district will have a robust platform through SHE-Marts to market their products. This initiative will create new markets for women's products and enhance their earnings," Union Minister Chouhan concluded.
