Chennai, Nov 12 (NationPress) Actor-turned-politician Vijay has delivered a scathing critique of the ruling DMK, alleging that they have transformed politics into a realm dominated by defamation and corruption. His comments were a reaction to subtle criticisms directed at him and his party, TVK, during the DMK’s “Vingnanotsavam (Festival of Knowledge)” event in Nungambakkam, Chennai.
The event, which saw the attendance of Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and senior DMK figures, included indirect jabs at Vijay’s political ambitions and rising support among the populace.
In a detailed social media post, Vijay expressed that “a power-hungry party, soon to be dismissed by the electorate,” has initiated its “typical smear campaign.”
Though he refrained from explicitly naming the DMK, he stated, “Is there any need to specify which party it is — the one whose core political ethos revolves around defamation? Since 1969, defamation has been their strategy, while corruption and bribery form their foundation.”
He criticized the DMK for focusing its efforts on undermining the image of TVK rather than prioritizing public service.
Vijay noted that the ruling party feels threatened by the emergence of TVK, which stems from sincere engagement with the community, leading them to resort to unfounded accusations.
“They assume we have launched a full-blown offensive against them, but we have merely made measured, respectful critiques,” he remarked.
“Even our minor critiques resonate strongly with the public, which seems to unsettle them,” he added.
In a pointed remark directed at Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Vijay accused the DMK of hypocrisy for its frequent references to Tamil identity and culture. “The leader of that party now asserts that Tamil Nadu, the Tamil language, and the Tamil people are their essence. But where was that affection when they breached constitutional codes for the sake of power?” he questioned.
He also highlighted the government's reluctance to conduct a caste-based census, revealing its insincere commitment to social justice.
Mocking the DMK’s 'Festival of Knowledge,' Vijay remarked that it has devolved into a “Festival of Defamation,” merely serving as a platform to attack TVK. “While they profess to uphold the ideals of Periyar and Anna, it is our movement that genuinely embodies secular and fair principles, unwavering before any authority,” he declared.
Vijay concluded by asserting that his party will persist in unveiling what he termed the DMK’s deceptive politics and would steadfastly align with the citizens in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. “We will demonstrate to these rulers the true power of the populace,” he proclaimed.
