Kolkata, Feb 28 (NationPress) The final list of voters in West Bengal, compiled during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), was unveiled on Saturday, revealing that a total of 61,78,245 voters have been removed. This number could increase as identity documents for approximately 60 lakh voters are currently under judicial review by officers appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI), following the directives of the Supreme Court.

During a press briefing on Saturday afternoon, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, stated that the total count of “approved” voters in the conclusive list stands at 7,04,59,284.

“When the SIR commenced in November of the previous year, there were 7,66,37,529 voters. This number has been adjusted to 7,08,16,630, and in the final voters’ list, the count of ‘approved’ voters is now 7,04,59,284. This indicates that 61,78,245 voters have been eliminated from the list,” Agarwal explained.

He further mentioned that if any individual has concerns regarding the deletion of their name, they must first approach the respective District Electoral Officer (DEO) and subsequently the CEO. “Applications regarding this must be submitted within the next 14 days as per established regulations,” Agarwal noted.

Numerous political factions in West Bengal, particularly the ruling Trinamool Congress, have raised issues regarding purported procedural inconsistencies in the SIR process. During the press conference detailing the final voters’ list, the CEO acknowledged some errors in the procedure.

“Nevertheless, these inaccuracies are minor in light of the vast scale of the operation. Where errors have occurred, the ECI has taken corrective measures,” Agarwal stated.

Despite the release of the final voters’ list, the judicial review of voter documents referred to ECI-appointed judicial officers will persist. “At present, 501 judicial officers are involved in this adjudication process. A supplementary list will be issued in due course, contingent on the advancement of the judicial review,” the CEO added.

The final voters’ list consists of three categories: “approved,” “under adjudication,” and “deleted.” Access to the list is available on the official websites of the ECI and the CEO of West Bengal. Voters may also verify information offline by reaching out to the booth-level officer (BLO) or visiting their respective polling station, where printed copies of the list are available for review.
