Kolkata, April 12 (NationPress) The West Bengal Health Department revealed on Saturday the transfer of Akhtar Ali, the whistleblower in the case of multi-crore financial discrepancies at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, to North Bengal.
The Calcutta High Court has instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to present evidence in the R.G. Kar financial irregularities case following a petition submitted by Ali regarding the issue.
Previously, Ali held the position of deputy superintendent (non-medical) at Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital and has now been assigned the same rank at Kaliyaganj State General Hospital in the North Dinajpur district.
In the ongoing R.G. Kar financial irregularities case, a total of five individuals, including the former and controversial principal Sandip Ghosh, are currently in judicial custody due to their suspected involvement in the scam.
The state health department has labeled the transfer as a routine administrative move. However, many within the medical community are questioning the true motives behind this transfer.
Recently, the health department faced criticism over the sudden transfer of Dr. Subarna Goswami, a prominent figure in the R.G. Kar rape and murder case, to a 'less significant' hospital in Darjeeling district in North Bengal, and to a lower position.
Goswami has since approached the Calcutta High Court to challenge her transfer.
The CBI has identified Sandip Ghosh as the principal orchestrator behind the R.G. Kar financial irregularities.
The primary allegations in this case include manipulations in the tendering process of the medical institute, outsourcing infrastructure-related work while circumventing the state public works department, the illegal disposal of biomedical waste, and the illicit sale of organs from unidentified bodies arriving at the hospital morgue for autopsy at inflated prices.
There are claims that the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar last August is linked to these financial irregularities.
Several medical professionals have suggested that the victim doctor paid the price for uncovering sensitive information regarding the involvement of influential parties in these financial malpractices.
