CM Mohan Yadav Urges Farmers to Prevent Stubble Burning
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gwalior, March 24 (NationPress) As the harvesting of Rabi crops like wheat, gram, mustard, and lentils progresses in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has urged farmers to refrain from burning crop residue post-harvest due to its detrimental effects on soil fertility.
Yadav mentioned that the state government is facilitating the distribution of Happy Seeder machines to beneficiaries for straw production. He encouraged farmers to sell the fodder to local gaushalas, which would not only help in waste management but also provide an additional income stream alongside their wheat harvest.
The Happy Seeder is a tractor-mounted machine designed for zero-tillage, allowing seeds to be sown directly into the remaining crop residues without the need for burning.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced plans to establish custom hiring centres at the assembly constituency level, ensuring that farmers have timely access to machinery for efficient harvesting.
He also assured the farming community of 24-hour electricity for irrigation following the monsoon season.
“Despite the intense heat, our farmers work relentlessly to feed the population. The state government is dedicated to enhancing the welfare of farmers,” he emphasized.
These comments were made during a farmers’ conference in Datia district within the Gwalior division on Tuesday.
While addressing a significant gathering, Yadav reiterated his call for farmers to embrace modern agricultural technology, expand into animal husbandry and fisheries, and set up agro-based industries and food processing units to increase their income.
He highlighted various schemes introduced to support these initiatives, noting that farmers are now producing fodder through machines as part of effective crop residue management, thus generating income from both wheat and straw.
During his visit, Yadav inspected a farmer’s field in Datia's Bhander area, where he operated a straw reaper machine and engaged with the farmer to learn about its advantages.
On this occasion, he also laid the foundation stone for new development projects valued at Rs 62.23 crore in Datia district.
