Amaravati, July 9 (NationPress) Authorities in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district have initiated legal action against YSRCP MLA Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy for making offensive remarks directed at the current Kovuru MLA, Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy.
A complaint lodged by a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader prompted police to file a case against Prasanna Kumar Reddy, who previously served as the MLA for the Kovur constituency.
The First Information Report (FIR) cites violations under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS): 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman aimed at outraging her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment), 79 (intending to insult a woman's modesty), and 296 (obscene acts and utterances in public places).
This legal action followed comments made by the YSR Congress Party leader two days prior, targeting Prashanthi Reddy, who represents the TDP.
During a constituency meeting of the YSRCP in Padugupadu village on Monday, Prasanna Kumar Reddy launched a personal attack against MLA Prashanthi Reddy.
He accused her of blackmailing and threatening Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy into marriage, stating that Prabhakar Reddy “fell into the trap of a borewell.”
The six-time MLA warned the Nellore MP that his life might be in danger due to his wife, advising him, “You possess assets worth thousands of crores. People perceive you as a wealthy and intelligent individual. Exercise caution; your life could be at risk both inside and outside your home.”
Prasanna Kumar Reddy's comments ignited public outrage, leading TDP women leaders and supporters to protest in Kovur, demanding that the YSRCP leader be prohibited from entering the constituency.
Shortly after his controversial remarks, Prasanna Kumar Reddy's residence in Nellore faced an attack from unidentified individuals. The assailants vandalized the property and reportedly assaulted his elderly mother.
The TDP MLA, however, refuted any connection to the attack on the YSRCP leader's home.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu condemned the derogatory comments aimed at Prashanthi Reddy, labeling them as ‘utterly disgusting’. He emphasized that stringent legal measures would be enforced against anyone engaging in inappropriate behavior towards women.
In a post on ‘X’, Naidu denounced Prasanna Kumar Reddy's remarks, stating, “The behavior of YSRCP leaders remains unchanged. Insulting women, using offensive language, and belittling them have become the political ethos of that party.”
