Kolkata, June 11 (NationPress) In a pivotal turn of events in the West Bengal porn racket case, Zoya Khan, the daughter of the main suspect Shweta Khan, was taken into custody on Wednesday by the Howrah City Police, according to officials.
Zoya's detention occurred just hours after her older brother, Aryan Khan, was captured at a hideout located in the Golf Green area of South Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the principal accused, Shweta Khan, is still on the run. Authorities are interrogating both Zoya and Aryan to uncover details regarding their mother’s location.
Police reports indicate that Zoya’s name was mentioned in a complaint filed by the family of a woman from the North 24 Parganas district.
The complainant claimed that the woman was kept in captivity for six months and severely beaten with an iron rod after she declined to engage in pornographic video filming allegedly orchestrated by Shweta, Aryan, and Zoya.
As Zoya is a minor, her case will be handled under the Juvenile Justice Act and submitted to the Juvenile Justice Board.
Deputy Commissioner (South) of Howrah City Police, Surinder Singh, confirmed the arrests and stated that efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend Shweta Khan promptly.
Police actions have accelerated following the National Commission for Women (NCW)'s suo motu cognizance of the incident, prompting a letter to West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar for immediate arrests under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The NCW also mandated the state police to ensure the victim receives complimentary medical care and psychological support.
Additionally, the Commission has instructed the DGP to provide a comprehensive action report within three days.
In the meantime, West Bengal BJP president and Union Minister of State, Sukanta Majumdar, has claimed that Shweta Khan has close associations with several high-ranking officials of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
The Trinamool Congress has yet to respond to these allegations.
