Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), the renewable energy segment of the Adani Group, has secured the top position in the latest global ranking by Energy Intelligence of the 'Top 100 Green Utilities'. This ranking highlights a significant shift toward low-carbon power generation driven by market dynamics. AGEL advanced from third place to first, overtaking the 2024 leader, China National Nuclear Corp, which has now fallen to fourth place.
AGEL is one of two Indian companies in the top 10 and one of six within the top 100, a significant increase from just one Indian company in the inaugural 2011 ranking.
This global ranking of leading green power producers is part of the Low-Carbon Energy service provided by UK-based Energy Intelligence, focusing on companies’ renewable energy portfolios and their greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Jugeshinder ('Robbie') Singh, CFO of the Adani Group, “The current policy framework and economic conditions are conducive for a rapid energy transition,” indicating a strong economic push behind this movement.
He elaborated that there is a clear economic incentive for the supply of green energy, stating, “It is inevitable.”
The top 10 ranking reveals a notable shift in the global energy transition towards Asia, with 50% of the companies represented from this region, including the two Indian firms and three from China. The remaining companies are from Europe.
Additionally, CO2 emissions from the ranked generators decreased by 6% last year, a drop less significant than the 9% reduction in 2023 but greater than the previous decade's average decline of 3%-4% per year.
“As we transition into the Age of Electricity, energy companies are increasingly investing in renewable sources, especially wind and solar, as these represent the most cost-effective options for new energy generation,” remarked James Cockayne, managing editor of Energy Intelligence.
He emphasized that this trend is particularly evident in Asia, which is taking the lead in the global energy transition, as reflected in the changing composition of the Top 100 Green Utilities.
