Key Takeaways

  • AGEL exceeds 12,000 MW of operational capacity.
  • Includes 275 MW from solar energy at Khavda.
  • Plans to deliver 50,000 MW by 2030.
  • Supports over 6.2 million homes.
  • Significant contribution to India's renewable energy goals.

Ahmedabad, Feb 28 (NationPress) Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), recognized as India’s leading renewable energy firm, has recently surpassed a milestone by exceeding 12,000 megawatts (MW) of operational capacity. This achievement includes the commissioning of an additional 275 MW solar energy capacity at the largest renewable energy facility globally, located in Khavda, Gujarat.

AGEL has become the first renewable energy entity in India to achieve this remarkable feat. The current operational portfolio of 12,258.1 MW comprises 8,347.5 MW solar, 1,651 MW wind, and 2,259.6 MW wind-solar hybrid capacity, as indicated in AGEL’s official statement.

“This milestone highlights AGEL’s dedication to providing 50,000 MW of clean, affordable, and dependable power by 2030. The 12,258.1 MW operational capacity will supply energy to over 6.2 million homes and prevent approximately 22.64 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. The emissions mitigated are equivalent to the carbon absorption of 1,078 million trees,” the company stated.

Adani Green Energy’s contribution of 12,258.1 MW represents the most significant greenfield expansion in India's renewable energy sector, accounting for about 10 percent of the nation’s installed utility-scale solar and wind capacity. This also constitutes over 13 percent of India’s utility-scale solar projects.

AGEL is currently working on developing the world’s largest renewable energy facility with a capacity of 30,000 MW on barren land in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Spanning 538 sq km, the project's area is five times larger than Paris and nearly as extensive as the city of Mumbai. Upon completion, it will be the largest power station globally across all energy types, according to the company.

To date, AGEL has operationalized a total of 2,824.1 MW of renewable energy at Khavda. The rapid progress at this site reinforces AGEL’s commitment to achieving India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, as per the company’s statement.

Development at Khavda is progressing swiftly, with AGEL utilizing the project execution strengths of Adani Infra, the manufacturing proficiency of Adani New Industries Limited, the operational excellence of Adani Infrastructure Management Services Ltd., and the solid supply chain of strategic partners, the statement elaborated.

AGEL is experiencing the fastest growth in greenfield renewable energy capacity addition in India, and the ongoing advancements at Khavda and other project locations will maintain this growth trajectory, the statement concluded.
