New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Union Budget for 2026-27 has significantly boosted the funding for the Ministry of Ayush to a remarkable Rs 4,500 crore, marking an increase exceeding 10 percent compared to the last fiscal year, as stated by Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Ayush, on Sunday.
In her ninth consecutive Budget address, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed the establishment of three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda aimed at enhancing education, research, and tertiary care in Ayurveda.
Additionally, she revealed plans to upgrade Ayush pharmacies and drug testing laboratories to meet higher certification standards, thereby fortifying the quality-assurance ecosystem for Ayurvedic and other traditional medicines while fostering the demand for skilled professionals.
“This year's budget allocates approximately Rs 4,500 crore to the Ayush Ministry, which is over 10 percent more than last year's budget of 2025-26,” Jadhav informed IANS.
“We are witnessing substantial growth in our Ayush industry right now,” he further commented.
The Finance Minister also proposed the upgrade of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine at Jamnagar, aiming to enhance evidence-based research, training, and awareness of traditional medicine globally.
“This upgrade will facilitate evidence-based research, generating robust scientific evidence. It will elevate the overall quality of research and aid in achieving high standards for our traditional medicine centres. Collaborating with the WHO will also ease the process of gaining global recognition for our traditional medicines,” Jadhav stated.
Sitharaman announced intentions to create Ayush centres within five proposed Regional Medical Value Tourism Hubs, merging AYUSH services with comprehensive medical tourism facilities that include diagnostics, post-care, and rehabilitation.
“With the integration of AYUSH, treatments will utilize therapeutic methods such as yoga, naturopathy, and ayurveda,” Jadhav shared with IANS.
“High-quality value tourism centres will be set up nationwide, and regulations are currently being developed for this purpose. This initiative will enable international patients to enter the country with an Ayush visa and receive treatment here, leading to a significant surge in foreign exchange earnings. This budget marks a historic investment in Ayush,” he concluded.
