New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) With Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman preparing to unveil the Union Budget 2026–27 in Parliament this Sunday, the people of Delhi have voiced their aspirations. They emphasize that critical sectors like education and railways should receive enhanced funding to meet public demands.
In conversations with IANS, numerous residents expressed their hope that the forthcoming Budget would alleviate the financial strain on everyday citizens.
Anil, a local resident, remarked, "The Budget should serve the interests of impoverished communities. It needs to be structured in a way that it directly benefits the ordinary person and elevates their living standards, allowing everyone to lead a life filled with dignity and joy."
Seema Bansal, another citizen, conveyed her desire for initiatives that would reduce household expenditures.
"Prices of home appliances and essential household goods need to decrease. Additionally, travel should become more pocket-friendly. Flight ticket costs and train fares should be lowered, and measures to curb inflation are essential," she mentioned.
Another resident shared similar sentiments, asserting that the budget should prioritize making daily life more manageable.
"We look forward to relief from escalating inflation. Traveling should be more accessible and affordable for all," they stated.
Amrit, a senior citizen, brought attention to tax relief and railway benefits.
"We deserve respite from hefty taxes. Despite promises of benefits for senior citizens, we are not seeing sufficient reductions in railway ticket prices," he noted.
Abhishek Yadav, a student, emphasized the urgent need for an increase in educational funding.
"The government should allocate at least 5% or more towards education. Our expenditure is significantly lower compared to other nations. We need enhancements in stipends, scholarships, and teachers' remuneration," he argued.
Another resident praised the Modi government’s achievements but underscored the necessity for improved railway safety.
"The government is performing admirably, and India is witnessing encouraging outcomes while others falter. Prioritizing railways and ensuring safety is crucial," the resident added.
Meanwhile, FM Sitharaman arrived at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday to meet President Droupadi Murmu before presenting the Union Budget 2026-27 in Parliament. This marks her ninth consecutive Budget presentation, making her the first female finance minister to reach this milestone.
The Budget is anticipated to strike a balance between fiscal responsibility and initiatives aimed at fostering growth, enhancing infrastructure, and creating jobs.
Experts expect a focus on defence, infrastructure, capital investment, power, and affordable housing, along with selective strategies to stimulate consumption. Maintaining fiscal discipline will also be a priority, with the fiscal deficit projected to reduce to 4.4% for FY26.
