New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) As Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman prepares to unveil the Union Budget 2026–27 in Parliament this Sunday, the expectations from Delhi's residents are clear. They believe that vital sectors like education and railways should receive enhanced budgetary allocations to satisfy the public's pressing needs.

In conversations with IANS, many locals expressed a desire for the new Budget to alleviate the financial strain on everyday citizens.

Anil, a resident of Delhi, emphasized, "The Budget should cater to the needs of the less fortunate. It must be structured to ensure that it benefits the common man, enhancing their quality of life and allowing them to live with dignity and joy."

Seema Bansal, another local, shared her hopes for reduced household expenses.

"Prices for home appliances and everyday items should decrease. Additionally, travel costs ought to become more manageable. Flight and train fares should be lowered, and inflation must be curbed," she proposed.

Another resident voiced similar sentiments, highlighting the need for the budget to simplify daily living.

"We expect relief from the surging inflation. Travel should be accessible and affordable for all," the individual remarked.

Amrit, a senior citizen, brought attention to taxation and railway concessions.

"We deserve relief from excessive taxes. While senior citizens are promised benefits, the relief in railway ticket fares remains inadequate," he noted.

Abhishek Yadav, a student, urged for increased investment in education.

"The government ought to boost education funding to at least 5 percent or more. Our current expenditure is significantly lower compared to other nations. Scholarships, stipends, and teachers' salaries should see an increase," he articulated.

Another resident commended the Modi government’s performance while underscoring the necessity of improving railway safety.

"The government is performing admirably, and India is witnessing positive trends while other nations face challenges. Railways must be prioritized, and safety should be guaranteed," the individual added.

Meanwhile, FM Sitharaman arrived at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday to meet with President Droupadi Murmu ahead of her Budget presentation. This marks her ninth consecutive Budget speech, making her the first female finance minister to reach this landmark.

The Budget is anticipated to strike a balance between fiscal prudence and initiatives aimed at fostering growth, enhancing infrastructure, and generating employment opportunities.

Economists predict a focus on defense, infrastructure, capital expenditure, energy, and affordable housing, alongside targeted strategies to stimulate consumption. Ensuring fiscal discipline will also be crucial, with projections indicating a decrease in the fiscal deficit to 4.4 percent for FY26.

Point of View

It is crucial to recognize the aspirations of citizens as the Union Budget is unveiled. The expectations for significant allocations in education and railways indicate a strong desire for improvement in public services. The government must balance fiscal responsibility while addressing these needs to foster national growth and stability.
