New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Hero Motors Limited (HML) announced a significant joint venture (JV) on Tuesday with SchmiedeTechnik Plettenberg (STP), a renowned entity from Germany, to produce forged powertrain components in India aimed at global markets.

The production facility is expected to start operations by mid-2026 and will be located at Hero Industrial Park in Ludhiana, which also houses other major automotive and EV manufacturing companies, such as HMC HIVE, HYM, and Spur Technologies.

This collaboration aims to enhance India's capabilities in near-net shape precision forging, further establishing the country as a vital player in advanced manufacturing, according to the companies’ statement.

“Given our robust R&D and manufacturing prowess, this alliance with STP will allow us to secure a considerable portion of the global powertrain components market,” remarked Pankaj M Munjal, Chairman of HMC Group.

STP is recognized as a leading specialist in forging and metallurgy in Germany, operating six facilities to produce high-precision forged and machined components for automotive and industrial sectors.

Cornel Mueller, Chairman and CEO of STP, stated that in addition to manufacturing in India, “we aim to promote cross-border knowledge sharing and incorporate best practices from Germany and India.”

HML is engaged in the production of highly engineered powertrain solutions and alloys, with R&D and manufacturing facilities located in India, the United Kingdom, and Thailand.

Amit Gupta, MD and CEO of Hero Motors, expressed that both partners possess complementary strengths and are dedicated to ensuring this venture becomes “greater than the sum of our contributions.”

Hero Motors is a part of the HMC Group, a diverse conglomerate involved in automotive components, e-mobility, cycles, real estate, and premium retail.

The HMC Group boasts an asset base of $1.2 billion and employs over 7,500 individuals worldwide.
