How Will India's Inclusion in 'Pax Silica' Influence 21st Century Dynamics?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) On Friday, India officially became a participant in Pax Silica, a US-led endeavor aimed at uniting an initial cohort of nations with strong connections to semiconductor manufacturing and advanced technology supply chains, during the AI Impact Summit 2026 held here.
The US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, remarked that the forthcoming age of Pax Silica would be pivotal in shaping the economic and technological landscape of the 21st century, calling India's involvement both strategic and indispensable.
Highlighting India's extensive talent reservoir and its potential to rival global competitors, Gor pointed out that New Delhi is enhancing its capabilities in critical minerals processing, with the United States actively collaborating with India in this sector.
Gor also expressed Washington's willingness to share reliable technologies with India, noting India’s strong grasp of the geopolitical dynamics in the region.
He emphasized that the summit has been profoundly impactful, stating, "There are numerous opportunities for collaboration between our nations, and we eagerly anticipate engaging further on these fronts."
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw asserted that the world has never had more confidence in India. He stated, "We possess a vast talent pool and have conducted our foreign policy in a manner that fosters trust. Today's signing of Pax Silica is vital for the semiconductor supply chain, manufacturing, and chip design, thereby establishing a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem in our nation."
This initiative will significantly enhance India's electronics and semiconductor sector, he added.
"We have ten plants already operational in India, with additional facilities in development, and the first semiconductor plant is set to commence commercial production soon. In this context, India is currently designing the most advanced two-nanometer chips. A complete ecosystem is emerging in India. Pax Silica will play a crucial role in this development, benefiting the youth of India," Vaishnaw elaborated.
India's inclusion in Pax Silica is expected to boost collaborations with advanced economies, attract investments, and strengthen supply chain resilience.
