Bengaluru, March 26 (NationPress) India has experienced an astonishing 103% increase in internship postings over the last three years, as reported on Wednesday.
The study conducted by Indeed, a global platform for job matching and hiring, highlighted that the surge in internship opportunities from 2022 to 2025 emphasizes how organizations are intensifying their focus on internships to bridge the divide between academic learning and industry demands.
In 2024 alone, internship listings soared by 23%, illustrating a consistent effort to develop professionals ready for the future.
This growth has been attributed to advancements in AI, data analytics, and digital transformation, leading companies to utilize internships not just for providing practical exposure but also for identifying and nurturing promising talent at an early stage.
Delhi, Karnataka, and Maharashtra are at the forefront of internship searches, contributing 7.2%, 6.8%, and 6.2% of total inquiries, respectively.
According to Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, "For young professionals, internships offer a vital platform to enhance their skills, acquire practical experience, and explore new career avenues. An internship is more than just a resume requirement; it's a significant initial step into the professional realm. The report further indicated that companies are looking for a varied skill set in their interns, with communication skills (31.99%) being the most sought-after. Other desirable skills include: English proficiency (12%); analytical skills (9%); SEO knowledge (8%); Microsoft Excel (8%); Python programming (7%); Microsoft Office skills (7%); and both HTML and JavaScript (6% each).
The average monthly stipend for internships in India is Rs 25,432, with cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, and Gurgaon offering stipends that exceed this national average. Conversely, Chennai and Kolkata are on the lower end of the stipend scale, as per the report.
In addition to stipends, various benefits such as work-from-home options, flexible schedules, health insurance, paid sick leave, and reimbursement for mobile expenses are also provided.
