Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) - The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given the green light for a revised capital expenditure of Rs 3,630.77 crore aimed at establishing greenfield connectivity to the Jewar International Airport. This infrastructure project will connect the airport with the Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh-Sohna spur of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway using a hybrid annuity model, spanning across Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
The 31.42 km corridor will facilitate rapid and direct access from south Delhi, Faridabad, and Gurugram to the airport, significantly boosting economic development and logistics efficiency throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).
This corridor will intersect with vital routes such as the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), creating a hub for multimodal transportation.
The elevated structure is not just a physical improvement; it serves as a crucial facilitator for urban development, enhanced regional access, and national logistics optimization.
According to a Cabinet note, "The construction of this corridor is essential to harness the full potential of the Jewar Airport–Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, ensuring sustainable urban growth in Faridabad."
As per the announcement, approximately 11 km of this infrastructure will be developed as an elevated highway, a key segment connecting the DND-Ballabhgarh Bypass to the Jewar International Airport and further linking it with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
This corridor runs through areas designated for high-density urban development and future infrastructure growth, as outlined in the Faridabad Master Plan 2031.
The additional funding required for the elevated corridor totals Rs 689.24 crore, with the Haryana government committing Rs 450 crore towards this initiative.
Last month, the government had also approved enhancements to two segments of National Highway-56, with a projected budget of Rs 4,583.64 crore, involving the construction of 4-lane sections over a cumulative distance of 107.67 km in Gujarat.
