Bengaluru, March 4 (NationPress) Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy convened an important meeting with the leaders and business representatives of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) to explore the enhancement of the electric vehicle (EV) sector in Karnataka and the development of necessary infrastructure in the state.
This meeting took place at the minister's office located in HMT Bhavan, where extensive discussions unfolded regarding the significant potential for expanding the EV industry in Karnataka.
Kumaraswamy announced that a world-class Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) testing facility will be set up in Mandya district with an investment of Rs 500 crore.
He mentioned that he has reached out to the Chief Minister of Karnataka to request the state government's support, expressing optimism for a favorable reply.
Additionally, he highlighted that Rs 500 crore had been earmarked in the previous Union Budget for this centrally-owned testing facility, and the Centre is willing to invest an extra Rs 500 crore if needed.
Business leaders present at the meeting praised the minister's initiative, asserting that such a facility is crucial for the state and would significantly bolster the automobile industry, particularly giving a substantial uplift to the EV sector.
Kumaraswamy emphasized that the growth of the EV sector in Karnataka will prioritize research, manufacturing, and job creation.
He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to achieving near-zero carbon emissions in the transport sector while fostering an environmentally sustainable transportation framework.
“We are striving to fulfill his vision,” Kumaraswamy remarked.
He noted that while enterprises are emerging in Karnataka, many manufacturing operations are relocating to other states.
“We must reverse this trend. The ARAI center will play a pivotal role in this endeavor,” he stated, adding that establishing an automobile testing facility will pave the way for further research and production opportunities in the years ahead.
Reiterating the Prime Minister’s vision for local job creation, Kumaraswamy said the Centre is providing extensive support under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
He asserted that the proposed ARAI testing center would not only generate thousands of direct jobs but also create significant indirect employment, laying the groundwork for a strong automotive ecosystem in the state.
Kumaraswamy stated that the Centre has sought the cooperation of the Karnataka government for this project.
He also highlighted that the Central government is promoting skill development in the EV sector in Karnataka.
By establishing a modern and comprehensive EV ecosystem, the state can unlock significant opportunities for economic growth, job creation, and manufacturing potential.
