Mahindra Launches State-of-the-Art Manufacturing and Battery Assembly Plant

Pune, Jan 8 (NationPress) The automobile giant Mahindra on Wednesday introduced its advanced manufacturing and battery assembly plant at the Chakan facility, creating a completely integrated ecosystem aimed at the production of electric SUVs.
In an effort to enhance EV manufacturing, Mahindra has earmarked Rs 4,500 crores from a total of Rs 16,000 crores allocated for the F22–F27 investment cycle. This investment encompasses powertrain development, the introduction of two product top hats, software and technology advancements, as well as boosting manufacturing capacity.
The company highlighted that the new EV manufacturing hub is a fully integrated and highly automated ecosystem, utilizing over 1,000 robots and various automated transfer systems.
This facility also aims for a 25 percent gender diversity ratio, emphasizing the plant’s commitment to an inclusive and future-oriented work environment.
“With this strong foundation, Mahindra is energized to launch the next-generation Electric Origin SUVs,” the automaker stated.
The facility incorporates over 500 robots and fully automated transfer systems in the body shop, all overseen by an IoT-based ‘Nerve Center’ that provides real-time process insights and complete traceability.
Located within the company’s 2.83 km Chakan manufacturing hub, this site is recognized as one of India’s largest greenfield projects, a water-positive facility that relies entirely on renewable energy.
According to Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the company ranks as the 11th most valuable automobile manufacturer globally, surpassing numerous rivals and former technology partners.
Regarding the EV sector, he asserted that it requires boldness for a traditional SUV manufacturer to invest significantly in the uncertain future of electric vehicles. “It also demands a strong commitment to innovation to integrate cutting-edge technology, design, and performance into vehicles with distinctive offerings. I hope this marks a promising future for every company within the Group,” Anand Mahindra expressed.
