New Delhi, Sep 8 (NationPress) The widely-used messaging service WhatsApp encountered a significant outage on Monday, leaving countless users throughout India unable to send messages or update their statuses.
According to the outage-monitoring website Downdetector, there were 410 reports by 2:20 p.m.
Of these, 54% of users faced server connection difficulties, while 24% experienced problems with WhatsApp on desktop, and 22% reported issues with the mobile application.
This platform only highlights incidents when the number of problem reports is notably higher than the usual volume for that time.
Frustrated users took to social media to voice their concerns. One user humorously noted, “aunties and uncles sending good morning gifs in the WhatsApp GC let me put this bag down and go to bed.” Another simply stated, “#WhatsApp is down!!”
One user on X inquired, “Is WhatsApp web down?” Another user responded, “Yes, it’s not just you. WhatsApp is down globally!”
Confirming the outage, another user commented, “Yes, my WhatsApp is down too.”
However, Meta has yet to provide an official explanation for the disruption.
This isn't the first instance this year that the Meta-owned platform has gone offline. In April, WhatsApp experienced a similar outage, preventing users from sending messages or posting updates for several hours.
On that occasion, Downdetector reported that 81% of users had trouble sending messages on April 12, while 16% faced issues with the overall app experience.
Earlier in February, the app had also encountered a massive global outage, with numerous complaints regarding connectivity on both WhatsApp Web and the mobile app.
During that episode, users were unable to connect or send messages through either WhatsApp app or WhatsApp Web, nor could they make calls. Downdetector recorded over 9,000 complaints that day.
