Arjun Rampal Redefines the Poet Archetype, Claims 'Bandish Bandits' Director

Mumbai, Dec 17 (NationPress) The director of 'Bandish Bandits', Anand Tiwari, has shared insights regarding the unexpected character Imroz, played by Arjun Rampal, in the series. He mentioned that Rampal's portrayal as a poet challenges the conventional stereotype.
Arjun Rampal's surprising cameo as Imroz Dehelvi, a charismatic writer, has captivated audiences. Tiwari provided details about this character and discussed why Rampal was the ideal choice to embody him in the series.
By defying clichés and reshaping the perception of poets on screen, Tiwari stated, “We often envision writers and poets in kurta-pajamas, barefoot, carrying a bag. But they can be anything, come from anywhere—even a music school.”
He continued, “I wanted Imroz Dehelvi to astonish the viewers, to defy expectations, and seeing Arjun Rampal as that poet undoubtedly breaks the stereotype.”
Tiwari mentioned that Arjun is a close friend who willingly accepted the role without knowing much about it.
He said, “His depth, security, and gravitas are attributes I have seen him exhibit in numerous films, and I discovered even more while collaborating with him on Nail Polish—these made him the perfect Imroz.”
Discussing the dynamic between Arjun and Divya Dutta as Imroz and Nandini, respectively, in the series, Tiwari noted: “What struck me was the chemistry they shared in Dhaakad—it was understated yet magnetic. That dynamic felt tailor-made for this series. Their connection is defined by what’s unsaid.”
He elaborated, “A simple exchange like ‘I’ve come,’ or ‘All the best’ carries layers of meaning. That’s the beauty of a mature relationship—the unspoken emotions create the most profound bond. We’ve worked to translate that subtlety into their story, making it authentic and deeply moving.”
The upcoming season showcases Ritwik Bhowmik, Shreya Chaudhry, Sheeba Chaddha, Atul Kulkarni, Rajesh Tailang, and Kunaal Roy Kapur, alongside new faces such as Divya Dutta, Rohan Gurbaxani, Yashaswini Dayama, Aaliyah Qureshi, and Saurabh Nayyar in significant roles.
“Bandish Bandits” Season two, created by Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari, is now streaming on Prime Videos.
