Mumbai, June 1 (NationPress) TV producer Binaiferr Kohli, renowned for her contributions to shows like 'Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai', 'Happu Ki Ultan Paltan', and 'F.I.R.', has shared insights on the transformation of Indian television content and the influence of OTT platforms.
She stated, “Television remains centered around family drama—with fresh elements and innovative storytelling. Analyzing today's top-rated serials, they are predominantly based on family themes. For instance, shows like Anupamaa demonstrate that this genre continues to resonate with audiences.”
Binaiferr believes while viewers crave novelty, familiarity still prevails. “Indeed, they desire something unique, but they are not always eager to explore it. The programs that are successful in prime time slots continue to lead,” she explained.
She emphasized, “Taking risks in television content is a significant challenge, and we—and particularly &TV—embraced that chance at the right moment. It truly paid off, and I commend the channel for its faith in innovative concepts.”
The producer affirmed that the essence of her show has been “preserved due to having one of the strongest creative teams in the industry.”
“Even after 11 years, our team consistently generates new episodes and scenarios that adapt with the times. That blend of consistency and innovation is what draws viewers back,” she elaborated.
Binaiferr noted that audiences have become increasingly discerning, saying, “This is largely attributed to the exposure from OTT platforms. They can quickly identify when a show is simply being produced for the sake of it. This is where word of mouth continues to hold immense power.”
She acknowledged that even the most exceptional shows might not gain the recognition they deserve due to the overwhelming array of choices available to viewers.
“If a story succeeds on one platform and another creator wishes to adapt it, that’s acceptable,” Binaiferr stated.
“However, they must implement modifications and introduce new twists. Otherwise, why would anyone opt for a remake when the original already exists—and excels?” she added.
