Jisshu Sengupta Reveals He Ignored Hindi and Bengali Films in His Youth
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 3 (NationPress) Bengali film icon Jisshu Sengupta has disclosed that his formative years were devoid of any influence from Hindi or Bengali cinema, even with a father who was a celebrated theatre actor.
Reflecting on his childhood, the actor mentioned that acting never captured his interest; instead, he dedicated his time to sports and music.
“My father was primarily a theatre actor, and my mother used to joke that having one actor in the family was sufficient. Hence, I never had a passion for acting,” Jisshu shared.
He continued, “I was a cricketer, representing Bengal in the Under-19 team. I also played the drums and still maintain a band. My focus was more on music and cricket rather than academics. Yet, by chance, I find myself approaching nearly three decades in the industry next year,” he added.
Starting his career on television before moving to films, Jisshu has become one of the leading figures in Bengali cinema.
He has also made significant contributions to Hindi films.
Throughout his career, he has starred in noteworthy films such as “Autograph,” “Chotushkone,” “Jaatishwar,” and “Ek Je Chhilo Raja” in Bengali cinema, alongside memorable roles in Hindi films like “Barfi!,” “Piku,” “Mardaani,” and “Shakuntala Devi.”
Now, he is preparing for his upcoming film “Bhoot Bangla,” which includes a cast featuring Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, and the late veteran actor Asrani.
Originally set for a March 10 release, the film is now planned to premiere in theatres on April 17.
