Jisshu Sengupta Discusses Key Differences Between Hindi and Bengali Cinema
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 27 (NationPress) Renowned superstar of the Bengali film industry, Jisshu Sengupta, shared his insights in an exclusive interview with IANS, shedding light on the significant distinctions between the Hindi and Bengali film sectors, with budget being the primary differentiating element.
He remarked, “It’s fundamentally about the finances. The typical budget for a Bengali film hovers around 3 crore, though there are exceptions in the range of 8-9 crores that surface once every few years. On average, Bengali cinema operates with a budget between 2.5 and 3.5 crore. That’s where the divergence lies.”
He also emphasized the scale and timeline involved in film production.
“In Bengali cinema, we often wrap up a film in about 16 to 18 days, inclusive of three to four songs. We manage to finish it. In contrast, such swift completion is unimaginable in Bollywood,” he noted.
Comparing it to lavish Bollywood productions, Jisshu stated, “For a high-budget film, like one directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a single song can take eight to ten days to complete. Meanwhile, we could finish 60 percent of our film in ten days.”
The actor also drew attention to the presence of Bengali talent in Bollywood.
He mentioned, “Numerous Bengalis are contributing to Bollywood today. There’s a wealth of technicians and directors of photography; for instance, Sudeep Sarkar collaborates with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, among many others.”
He further stressed, “When it comes to music directors, we have Pritam and Shantanu Moitra. The talent pool here is vast. In terms of skills and technical expertise, there’s no disparity; the only major difference remains the financial aspect between Bollywood and Bengali cinema.”
On his upcoming projects, Jisshu Sengupta is slated to star in Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, alongside Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film is expected to hit theaters on April 10.
