Chennai, April 1 (NationPress) The creators of director Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Retro’, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, have revealed how Karthik Subbaraj assisted Malayalam actor Joju George in perfecting his Tamil dialogues in the movie.
Continuing their tradition of sharing amusing and memorable moments from the sets of ‘Retro’ in comic strip form, Stone Bench Films, the production company in collaboration with Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, recently unveiled its eighth comic strip, titled ‘EPI008: Actor Jayaram and Joju George’s Ragalaigal on sets – The Powerhouse Performers!’ on their X timeline.
The production team first highlighted how actor Jayaram kept the atmosphere vibrant on set with his mimicry talents.
“Whenever Karthik Subbaraj delivers a line or hands over the dialogue to Jayaram sir, he often impersonates other actors’ voices, causing everyone on set to erupt in laughter. Occasionally, even during takes, he creates such a joyful environment that the entire crew struggles to suppress their laughter—resulting in multiple retakes. Nevertheless, amidst the chaos, he consistently executes his work flawlessly while others are left chuckling,” the production team stated.
They further commented, “Jayaram sir frequently mimics Thalaivar’s voice, as our Pandiyaa is a huge fan! ‘Betty bought some butter, and the butter was bitterrerrrr!’ – a quintessential example of his playful antics on set!
“Even Suriya Sir became a 'target' of Jayaram’s clever jokes and quips. While Jayaram sir performed his lines accurately, he often made Suriya sir laugh uncontrollably during takes, adding even more liveliness to the shoot.”
Stone Bench then detailed how Joju George mastered his Tamil dialogues.
“Then there’s Joju George, whose Tamil skills were refined by none other than Karthik Subbaraj, his unofficial Tamil tutor! During rehearsals, Joju George sir would sometimes translate sentences from Malayalam to Tamil, experimenting with various pronunciations. However, when rolling, he delivered his Tamil lines with perfect fluency, leaving everyone astonished by his impeccable Tamil pronunciation and natural dialogue delivery,” the production house mentioned in another tweet.
“Directing these two powerhouse performers was an absolute joy—filled with laughter, spontaneity, and fun. Yet, when it came to work, their professionalism and commitment were unmatched,” it concluded.
Alongside Suriya and Pooja Hegde, ‘Retro’, set for release on May 1, will showcase a variety of stars including Malayalam actors Joju George and Jayaram, along with Tamil actor Karunakaran.
The film’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna. Editing is managed by Shafique Mohamed Ali and art direction by Jacki, Mayapandi. The action-packed film will feature stunts by Kecha Khamphakdee.
