Mumbai, June 1 (NationPress) Celebrated actor Kamal Haasan has delivered an unforgettable performance in the iconic film ‘Sadma’. Who can forget the heart-wrenching climax where his character faces abandonment by Sridevi’s character upon her recollection of past memories?
While Sridevi captivates the audience throughout the film, it is Kamal Haasan who arrives with a powerful performance that leaves an indelible mark. Though often praised for his portrayal in the film's climax, he insists on sharing the accolades with both Sridevi and the film's director, Balu Mahendra.
Kamal shared with IANS, “A filmmaker like Mani Ratnam or Balu Mahendra cannot be overlooked. His goal was to craft a formidable character, enhancing the protagonist's journey. The audience truly feels the protagonist’s anguish, pain, and love, which requires careful buildup. All three of us contributed to this film's essence. Balu Mahendra handled editing, cinematography, and writing, leading a small but mighty crew.”
He added, “Balu was among the first graduates from FTII, Pune to arrive in Chennai, simplifying the art of cinema. The knowledge gained from a peer can often surpass lessons from a revered master, as we both navigated through similar struggles. For me, it felt like walking alongside an elder brother.”
Previously, Kamal expressed that despite his extensive filmography, he continues to view himself as a student of cinema. Having started his career at just six years old as a child artist, he has evolved alongside the industry.
He emphasized that with the rapid advancements in cinema, remaining a student is the safest approach.
Kamal stated, “As cinema evolves swiftly and new tools emerge, the best position is to remain a student rather than transitioning to a teacher. While our ideas may face scrutiny, we must trust them as we embody this era and its narratives.”
Produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, R. Mahendran, and Siva Ananth, ‘Thug Life’ is set for a global theatrical release on June 5, 2025.
