Mumbai, Aug 12 (NationPress) Director and producer Om Raut, whose film ‘Inspector Zende’ is scheduled for an OTT release next month, has shared insights on how the concept for the movie originated.
In an interview with IANS at his office located in Mumbai's Khar West, he revealed that he grew up hearing tales of Inspector Zende, the Mumbai police officer renowned for apprehending the infamous Bikini Killer, Charles Sobhraj.
Raut stated, “Sadly, everyone is familiar with the villain. The individual who captured him remains relatively unknown. We now have the opportunity to narrate his story, which provides immense satisfaction to my team and me. The approach taken by the writer and director to tell this tale is incredibly engaging.”
He further elaborated, “My father was always intrigued by Inspector Zende's story. As a journalist, he interacted with Zende during his tenure in the Mumbai Police and penned several articles about him. He was deeply fascinated by the remarkable contributions that Inspector Zende made to the Maharashtra Police and the Indian Police Force.”
Raut continued, “I aimed to translate that narrative into my medium, which is cinema. This is how the film came to fruition. Today, Inspector Zende is 88 years old and continues to embody the spirit of a charismatic Mumbai Police officer.”
The director-producer also mentioned that the film is being produced for Netflix, emphasizing the advantages of collaborating with the streaming giant, known for its expertise in film production.
“Working with them is crucial for us to reach a broader audience,” he added.
