Mumbai, July 28 (NationPress) Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran revealed that his acting approach remains consistent, regardless of a director's experience. During the promotional event for his streaming film ‘Sarzameen’, he shared insights with IANS about his unwavering process.
He stated, “My approach does not vary between a first-time director or a highly seasoned one. I may be a bit off with the figures, but I believe I've collaborated with at least 50 newcomers. The method remains unchanged. In fact, a director's own process evolves based on the script they opt to create.”
‘Sarzameen’ is directed by Kayoze Irani, son of actor Boman Irani. Prithviraj expressed confidence that Kayoze's methodology for this project is primarily influenced by the script of ‘Sarzmaane’.
“If he decides to direct a completely different genre tomorrow—he has mentioned wanting to try comedy next—I'm certain his approach will shift accordingly. This is characteristic of all filmmakers, and it is crucial for them to adapt their methods to align with the written material. For me as an actor, there’s no distinction between working with a newcomer or an established director, nor between a small film or a major one, or between an action movie or a comedy,” he elaborated.
Previously, Prithviraj noted that his directorial instincts only surface when he’s calling the shots from the director’s chair. While collaborating with another director, he entirely sets aside his directing self.
He mentioned, “I directed my first film in 2018. Now, I’ve been in this role long enough to clearly differentiate between my work as an actor and as a filmmaker. The most significant change for me as an actor, after stepping into directing, is that I can now completely turn off my technical mindset while on set.”
“And I truly relish that experience,” he added. ‘Sarzameen’ signifies the directorial debut of Kayoze Irani, and Prithviraj emphasized his desire to follow the director's vision and contribute as an actor, rather than stepping into a directorial role.
