Mumbai, Nov 8 (NationPress) Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur expressed his thoughts regarding Former FTC Chair Lina Khan's assertion that we are currently experiencing an “AI bubble”. In a deeper analysis of the driving forces behind today's artificial intelligence discourse, Shekhar stated on his X (formerly Twitter) feed, “We are not experiencing an AI bubble. Instead, we are witnessing a manipulated valuation bubble. Valuation is a narrative that, if repeated long enough, transforms into a myth (sic).”
The director of 'Mr India' further contended that AI itself is not the issue; rather, it is the inflated expectations and speculative investments surrounding it that pose the real problem.
Shekhar compared this situation to the real estate boom, where property prices soared to unsustainable levels until homes transformed into mere assets ensnared in a cycle of greed and eventual collapse. He noted that AI, too, is being drawn into a whirlwind of valuation hype.
The filmmaker perceives AI as one of the most democratic technologies of our era - a tool capable of boosting productivity, creativity, and equality when utilized wisely.
“AI is here to stay. It’s potentially the most democratic technology to enhance our productivity. When your home’s value skyrockets, it ceases to be just a home; it becomes part of a real estate bubble that risks breaking, and you still require a place to live,” the maker of 'Masoom' further explained.
Previously, Shekhar has participated in social media debates about the implications and future of AI across various life sectors.
On Tuesday, he remarked that leading figures at the top of the industry pyramid would not endorse AI.
In response to a discussion about prominent figures in Hindi cinema shying away from AI due to public sentiment, the Padma Bhushan awardee remarked, “You’re seeking the wrong individuals. ‘A Listers’ reached the top on business models that are on the verge of extinction. Studios in the US continue to exist because they have created business models so costly that they establish entry barriers. AI will democratize filmmaking.”
