The Moment Aditya Chopra Nearly Discarded the Legendary ‘Dhoom Machaale’ Track

Mumbai, Jan 12 (NationPress) The title track of ‘Dhoom’ was on the verge of being discarded by producer Aditya Chopra because he was not fond of the melody. Lyricist Sameer once shared a captivating story regarding the title track, explaining that a single line from the song was enough for Adi to dismiss the entire composition, including its melody and lyrics.

In a previous interview, Sameer recounted the incident while speaking to Digital Commentary, stating, “Aditya Chopra invited me to hear about the storyline of ‘Dhoom’. I found it to be an excellent narrative. After leaving his office, I encountered two individuals in the lift: Pritam, the composer, and Sanjay Gadhvi, the director of ‘Dhoom’. They urged me, ‘Sir, please give the tune a listen. Adi has deemed it a worthless tune. Would you please hear it out?’ I listened and genuinely appreciated it. I then approached Adi and expressed my approval of the melody, but Adi remained unconvinced. I asked, ‘Should I attempt to modify it?’ He agreed.”

“The initial lyrics contained the line, ‘Main teri hoon, main teri Laila’. This was something he disliked. After leaving his office, I kept replaying the melody in my mind. Given that the film is titled ‘Dhoom’, I thought it would be exciting to incorporate ‘Dhoom’ into the melody. Hence, I crafted the lines, ‘Dhoom machaale, Dhoom machaale, Dhoom’, and sent it to Adi over the phone. He was quite impressed. Pritam was unaware of the changes and asked, ‘Sir, what transpired?’ I explained the adjustments I made to the lyrics. Adi then remarked, ‘Now, feel free to write anything you like,’” he elaborated.

‘Dhoom’, which premiered in 2004, was a transformative film not only for Yash Raj Films but also for Bollywood, as it set forth numerous new trends and catapulted John Abraham to stardom overnight.
