Chennai, Jan 18 (NationPress) The creators of the pan-Indian movie ‘Kannappa’, starring Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, are making every effort to introduce the narrative of the warrior devotee of Lord Shiva to the younger generation. During a media interaction in Chennai, reporters were given two volumes of a comic book. When asked about the comic books and their relation to the film, Vishnu Manchu responded, “You have two volumes. We also have a third volume that will be ready in a fortnight.

“For this generation, particularly kids under 16 years old, I need to prepare them for this type of story. When we first launched this book, I posted a message on Instagram inviting those interested in receiving a copy of the comics to DM me. This was six to seven months ago. We printed only 5,000 copies initially, and even then, there were those who doubted, asking, ‘Who will read them?’

“However, to date, we have printed 80,000 copies. The demand is substantial, and we hope that this interest will convert into interest for the film,” Vishnu stated.

Highlighting that comic books only offer a foundational glimpse of the story, Vishnu mentioned, “The real story is much more intricate than what is depicted. Kannappa is a tale that can be summarized in a single page. It narrates how an atheist transformed into a devotee. When Lord Shiva wished to witness the depth of Kannappa's devotion, he was astonished that such a profound devotee existed, to the extent that he declared that before any puja is conducted in his temple, it must first be offered to Kannappa.

“But who was Kannappa and what transpired before his encounter with Shiva? There are multiple interpretations, and this film represents my interpretation of who Kannappa is, exploring his journey and his bond with his father. I took the creative freedom to narrate it. This is based on true events but is my interpretation of what it could have been,” the actor elaborated.

The film, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, features prominent stars from the Indian film industry, including Vishnu Manchu, Mohan Babu, Mohanlal, Prabhas, Preity Mukundhan, Akshay Kumar, Sarathkumar, and Kajal Aggarwal. The cinematography is handled by US cinematographer Sheldon Chau and Indian cinematographer Siddharth.
