Lucknow, March 16 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a medical officer affiliated with the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) along with an executive from a private hospital, in relation to a suspected bribery scandal involving illicit advantages granted to an empanelled hospital in Uttar Pradesh, according to a formal announcement made on Monday.
The individuals taken into custody have been named as Major Dr. Ashish Shakya (retd), who serves as the Medical Officer at the ECHS Polyclinic in Etah, and Bijendra Singh, an Assistant General Manager at a private medical facility.
The CBI disclosed that a case was initiated on March 15 against five suspects, which includes the ECHS medical officer, a private hospital/company, and three representatives from the hospital, in addition to other unidentified individuals.
The agency has accused the medical officer of colluding with the representatives of the private hospital to provide and facilitate undue advantages to the empanelled institution by redirecting patients to it in exchange for illegal payments.
Investigations revealed that the accused public servant purportedly accepted bribes from the hospital's management in return for guiding beneficiaries of the ECHS scheme to the specific hospital for medical treatment.
During a sting operation executed by the CBI, a bribe amounting to Rs 3 lakh, which was allegedly handed over by a representative of the private hospital to the medical officer, was recovered.
Both suspects were detained on Sunday.
The agency also conducted searches at various sites, including Noida, Etah, Firozabad, and Farrukhabad. During these operations, several incriminating documents and digital devices believed to be connected to the alleged corruption racket were seized.
The CBI stated that further inquiries into the case are ongoing to determine the complete scope of the conspiracy and the involvement of additional individuals.
