Beijing/Kabul, Jan 20 (NationPress) Following a devastating explosion at a Chinese restaurant in the Afghan capital of Kabul, which resulted in numerous casualties, including the tragic death of a Chinese national, Beijing has reiterated its warning for its citizens to refrain from traveling to Afghanistan "in the near future".

"China has officially lodged an urgent protest with the Afghan government, demanding that it prioritize the care of the injured, enact stringent measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, and initiate a thorough investigation to bring the attackers to justice," stated Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a routine press briefing in Beijing.

The spokesperson noted that representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan have visited hospitals to extend their condolences to the victims.

"China categorically condemns all forms of terrorism and stands in solidarity with Afghanistan and neighboring nations in their collective fight against terrorist acts. Given the precarious security situation in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs once more advises Chinese nationals to avoid traveling there for the time being. Those already in Afghanistan are urged to heighten their security awareness, bolster protective measures, and evacuate from high-risk regions as soon as possible," he continued.

Reports indicate that ISIS-Khorasan has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing at the Chinese restaurant.

"The Islamic State Khorasan has taken responsibility for the suicide attack targeting a Chinese establishment in the Shahr-e-Naw district of Kabul on January 18, around 3 p.m. The Taliban confirmed that the attack resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including one Chinese citizen, with 13 others sustaining injuries," reported Afghanistan International, a UK-based media outlet.

"The ISIS-linked Amaq news agency released a statement asserting that a suicide bomber detonated explosives inside the restaurant, which was frequented by Chinese nationals and their security personnel. The statement alleged that the attack caused casualties among Afghan civilians as well as Taliban members assigned to secure the location. ISIS did not provide corroborating evidence for its casualty claims but asserted that 25 people were either killed or injured," the report added.

According to local media, the statement indicated that the targeting of Chinese citizens was a protest against the terrorist organization’s view on "China's treatment of Uyghur Muslims."
