Suva, March 26 (NationPress) The Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, engaged in discussions with Fiji's Minister for Agriculture, Waterways, and Sugar Industry, Tomasi Tunabuna, on Thursday. The focus of their meeting was on enhancing bilateral collaboration in the fields of agriculture and capacity building.

According to a post from the Indian High Commission in Suva on X, High Commissioner Suneet Mehta expressed satisfaction in meeting with the Honorable Minister. The discussions were described as productive, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and furthering the growing partnership between the two nations and their people.

Earlier, on March 10, India and Fiji conducted talks aimed at fostering cooperation across various sectors, including digital communications, climate initiatives, waste management, and training and capacity enhancement.

These discussions occurred in a meeting featuring Suneet Mehta and Fiji's Minister for Information, Environment, and Climate Change, Lynda Tabuya. The Indian High Commission noted on X that the talks were focused on enhancing collaboration in numerous areas, including digital and multimedia communications, climate efforts, waste management, and capacity building.

Additionally, on March 6, Mehta met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Development Bank, Filimone Waqabaca, to explore opportunities for bolstering cooperation in development finance, investment, and sustainable economic growth.

The Indian High Commission in Fiji shared that the discussions with Waqabaca were centered around enhancing India-Fiji cooperation in development finance, investment, and sustainable economic growth.

Last month, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, convened with Fiji's Minister for Finance, Commerce, and Business Development, Esrom Immanuel, in New Delhi. They discussed bilateral relations, shared priorities, and potential cooperation in digital infrastructure.

In a message on X, Margherita expressed his pleasure in meeting with Honorable Esrom Immanuel and highlighted the productive discussions covering various aspects of India-Fiji relations, with a special emphasis on development partnerships and digital infrastructure cooperation.

The relationship between India and Fiji is founded on mutual respect, collaboration, and robust cultural and interpersonal ties. The connection was significantly strengthened following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Fiji in November 2014, during which the inaugural meeting of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) took place, as noted by the Indian High Commission in Fiji.

Over the years, India has played a crucial role in supporting Fiji's nation-building initiatives in vital sectors, including capacity development.
