The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday that the Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs) Muanpuii Saiawi, while Norway's delegation was headed by Jon Elvedal Fredriksen, Director General, Department for Security Policy and the High North, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The discussions centered on how to uphold a secure and safe maritime environment that adheres to international law like UNCLOS, which is essential for economic growth, peace, and progress in maritime affairs. Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperative initiatives within the maritime sector and explored ways to enhance international and regional mechanisms for comprehensive maritime security. They jointly committed to bolster efforts against illicit maritime activities and safeguard critical maritime infrastructure," stated the MEA.
Officials also exchanged views on the latest developments in disarmament and non-proliferation, alongside multilateral cooperation. They agreed to reconvene for the next round of discussions in New Delhi at a mutually convenient time.
