He noted the alignment of both countries in the renewable energy sector and announced the establishment of the India-Germany Centre of Excellence to further enhance collaboration.
During a joint press conference with Chancellor Friedrich Merz after their discussions on Monday, PM Modi highlighted the upcoming celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, underlining that enhanced trade and investment ties have revitalized their strategic partnership.
"Chancellor Merz's visit is significant. Last year marked 25 years of our strategic partnership, and this year, we are also celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations. These milestones symbolize our shared ambitions and growing cooperation," he remarked.
"Close cooperation between economies like India and Germany is crucial for humanity. Our bilateral trade has reached an all-time high, exceeding USD 50 billion," he added.
PM Modi highlighted that over 2,000 German companies have established a long-term presence in India, which demonstrates their confidence and the vast opportunities available. He cited the India-Germany CEO Forum as a platform where both leaders engaged with business leaders earlier.
"Our technology cooperation has strengthened year after year, and its effects are evident today. India and Germany share common priorities in renewable energy," he remarked.
"To further boost this cooperation, we will establish the India-Germany Centre of Excellence, serving as a joint platform for knowledge, technology, and innovation," he added.
Welcoming Chancellor Merz to India, PM Modi stated, "This is his first visit to India and Asia, reflecting the significance he places on our relations. I appreciate his personal commitment. India is dedicated to deepening its friendship and partnership with Germany... We extend a warm welcome to Chancellor Merz in India."
PM Modi announced plans for a roadmap to boost collaboration between the defence industries.
He also expressed his gratitude to Chancellor Merz for introducing visa-free transit for Indian citizens, emphasizing that this decision will further fortify the ties between the two nations.
"Our evolving cooperation in defence and security showcases our mutual trust and shared vision. I sincerely thank Chancellor Merz for easing defence trade procedures. We aim to develop a roadmap for enhanced cooperation between defence industries, paving the way for new co-development and co-production opportunities," he added.
Highlighting the deep and historic people-to-people connections, PM Modi noted, "India and Germany share rich historical ties. The works of Rabindranath Tagore inspired the German intellectual community, while Swami Vivekananda's philosophy influenced all of Europe, including Germany."
"Moreover, Madame Cama garnered global awareness for India's freedom aspirations by hoisting India's independence flag for the first time in Germany. Today, we are building upon this legacy and transforming our historical connections into a vibrant, modern partnership," the Prime Minister concluded.
