Maputo, Nov 13 (NationPress) In a significant move aimed at strengthening maritime collaboration between India and Mozambique, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Savitri conducted a joint training exercise with personnel from the Mozambique Navy at Port Beira, located in the southern region of Africa. This engagement is set to enhance interoperability for future joint operations.
As reported by the Indian Navy spokesperson, the training involved professional discussions on navigational strategies and effective monitoring of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Participants also engaged in practical training for Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) drills, as well as damage control and firefighting exercises.
In addition to the technical training, both navies took part in a joint yoga session and friendly sports activities, which promoted a spirit of competition, camaraderie, and strengthened their bonds on and off the field.
INS Savitri, an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) of the Indian Navy, made its way to Port Beira on Monday as part of its ongoing mission in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The vessel received a warm ceremonial reception from the Mozambique Navy, a testament to the longstanding historical ties and robust maritime collaboration between the two nations.
As part of its community outreach initiatives, INS Savitri is set to welcome visitors onboard, providing an opportunity to display its operational capabilities and the rich maritime traditions of the Indian Navy. Furthermore, a medical camp will be organized for the local community to enhance friendships and goodwill.
This port call serves to reinforce the Indian Navy's role as a dependable and Preferred Security Partner in the IOR.
Just last week, INS Savitri also hosted visitors during its port call at Port Louis, Mauritius, showcasing the Navy's operational capabilities, advanced technologies, and rich heritage.
“During her Port Call at Port Louis, Mauritius, INS Savitri welcomed visitors onboard! This initiative provided a unique opportunity to highlight the operational capabilities, technological advancements, and rich traditions of the Indian Navy. It also promoted mutual understanding, maritime diplomacy, and strengthened people-to-people connections between India and Mauritius,” stated the Indian Navy spokesperson on X.
The personnel from INS Savitri and the National Coast Guard (NCG) of Mauritius also engaged in a friendly football match, enhancing competitive spirit, camaraderie, and reinforcing bonds both on and off the field.
