Iran Issues Warning: Retaliation Against US-Linked Oil Assets If Energy Infrastructure Is Attacked
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tehran, March 15 (NationPress) In a stern warning, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that any assault on Iran's oil and energy infrastructure would lead to a retaliatory strike on regional facilities associated with US corporations. In an interview with the US media outlet MS Now, Araghchi responded to the recent US military action on Kharg Island, Iran's crucial oil terminal located in the south, and to President Donald Trump's threats to attack the island’s oil facilities if shipping lines through the Strait of Hormuz are obstructed, according to the Xinhua news agency.
"Our military forces have made it clear that they will retaliate if our oil and energy infrastructure comes under attack. They will target any energy facility in the region that is owned or partially owned by an American corporation," Araghchi stated.
He also alleged that the US strikes on Friday originated from two sites in the United Arab Emirates: Ras Al-Khaimah and an area close to Dubai, warning that launching attacks from densely populated areas poses significant risks.
"We would definitely respond, but we aim to avoid striking populated areas," he added.
In a similar vein, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the nation’s main military command, emphasized that any attack on Iran’s oil, economic, or energy infrastructure would instigate immediate counter-strikes on regional sites linked to American interests. "All oil, economic, and energy facilities associated with US interests will be annihilated and turned to ashes," spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari told the official IRNA news agency.
Araghchi noted that the Strait of Hormuz remains accessible for shipping, except for vessels associated with Iran’s adversaries and their allies. While some ships are avoiding the region due to security issues, numerous tankers continue to navigate through.
Despite the military action, oil exports from Kharg Island persist without interruption. Ehsan Jahanian, deputy governor of Bushehr province, informed the semi-official Tasnim news agency that while military installations and the airport on Kharg experienced damage, there have been no casualties, and commercial operations remain active.
On February 28, joint military operations conducted by Israel and the United States targeted Tehran and other Iranian cities, resulting in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, key military leaders, and over 1,300 civilians. Iran retaliated with extensive missile and drone strikes on Israeli and American bases and assets throughout the Middle East.
