Ramallah, Jan 28 (NationPress) An Israeli airstrike has resulted in the deaths of two Palestinian men and left three others injured after targeting a vehicle in the Nour Shams refugee camp close to Tulkarm in the occupied West Bank, according to reports from Palestinian authorities and eyewitnesses.

The Health Ministry based in Ramallah confirmed that two fatalities and three injuries were reported at the Tulkarm Governmental Hospital following the incident. Eyewitnesses indicated that the strike led to a fire at the scene, prompting an immediate response from ambulances and civil defense teams.

Abdullah Kamil, the governor of Tulkarm representing the Palestinian Authority, identified the deceased individuals as Ihab Abu Atwi and Ramez Al-Damiri, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

In a parallel development, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Agency (ISA) acknowledged in a statement that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) was responsible for the deaths of two individuals in Tulkarm.

According to their statement, "During a coordinated operation between the IDF and ISA, an IAF aircraft targeted and eliminated Ihab Abu Atwi, a terrorist who was the leader of Hamas in Tulkarm, along with another terrorist."

It further mentioned that Abu Atwi was implicated in multiple shooting incidents, including a July attack on an Israeli vehicle at the Ramin junction in the West Bank, which resulted in injuries to three Israelis.

This airstrike took place amid an ongoing seven-day Israeli military operation in Jenin, another city in northern West Bank. Palestinian security sources informed Xinhua that airstrikes and demolition of homes have displaced thousands of families during this period.

Since October 2023, violence in the West Bank has escalated, with Palestinian health officials reporting over 800 Palestinian fatalities due to Israeli fire in the past year.
