Dhaka, Feb 15 (NationPress) The Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, has expressed his congratulations to Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), following the party's remarkable triumph in the recent parliamentary elections and his anticipated role as the next Prime Minister.

In a comprehensive message shared on his official X account, Dr Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the importance of Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to his residence, calling it “a significant milestone in our national political journey.”

He welcomed the meeting “in a spirit of dialogue and responsibility” and expressed optimism that it would herald “a new era of institutional maturity and mutual respect” within Bangladesh's political framework.

Elaborating on his party’s vision, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader stated, “We aim to establish a Bangladesh that is devoid of fascism, autonomous in its decision-making, and rooted in justice.”

He affirmed that the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, together with the 11-party alliance, “is devoted to creating a prosperous, stable, and modern state anchored in democratic principles and constitutional governance.”

Discussing their conversations, Dr Shafiqur Rahman noted that Tarique Rahman had “reiterated that measures are being implemented in response to incidents of post-election violence, including steps to protect opposition supporters and minority groups.”

He appreciated this assurance and stressed that “no individual, irrespective of political affiliation, should endure intimidation or insecurity” in the nation.

While promising cooperation on national issues, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader underscored his party’s duty to uphold its role as a principled opposition.

“We will fully cooperate on matters of national importance, yet we will fulfill our constitutional role as a steadfast and principled opposition,” he noted.

He added, “When the government acts in the public interest, we will lend our support. Where accountability is due, we will speak up,” highlighting the party’s commitment to democratic oversight.

Clarifying his party's stance, he stated, “Our goal is not confrontation but correction; not obstruction, but oversight,” signifying a constructive role in parliamentary activities.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman also remarked that citizens anticipate the new parliament to uphold the values of democracy and governance standards.

“The populace deserves a parliament that defends justice, safeguards rights, and propels the nation towards stability and confidence,” he asserted.
