PM Modi's Statement

Modi posted his condemnation on X (formerly Twitter), stating: "Strongly condemn the attacks on the UAE that resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals. Targeting civilians and infrastructure is unacceptable. India stands in firm solidarity with the UAE and reiterates its support for the peaceful resolution of all issues through dialogue and diplomacy. Ensuring safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is vital for enduring regional peace, stability and global energy security."

The statement underscores India's strategic interest in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor through which a significant share of India's oil imports transit.

What Happened in Fujairah

The attacks on Fujairah took place on Monday local time, with missiles and drones striking civilian sites and facilities. The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as "renewed unprovoked Iranian aggression" and confirmed that three Indian nationals were among those injured in the strikes on civilian infrastructure.

The UAE Ministry held Iran fully responsible, calling the attacks an "unacceptable act of aggression" and a "direct threat to the UAE's security, stability and territorial integrity." It further stated that the attacks violated the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE confirmed on Monday that it was in contact with local authorities to ensure adequate medical care and welfare of the affected Indian nationals. "Three Indian nationals have been injured in today's attacks in Fujairah. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the country "will not tolerate any threat to its security and sovereignty under any circumstances" and reserved its "full and legitimate right to respond to these unprovoked attacks in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty, national security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens, residents, and visitors, in accordance with international law."

The Ministry also called for an immediate halt to the attacks and full compliance with the cessation of all hostilities. This comes amid heightened tensions in the broader Gulf region, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a flashpoint for geopolitical friction involving Iran.
