Monitoring Committee to Address Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire Agreement to Commence Operations Within 48 Hours

Beirut, Dec 2 (NationPress) A five-member monitoring committee focused on the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon is poised to commence its activities within the next 48 hours, according to Lebanese security sources.

The anonymous sources indicated that the committee will be chaired by US General Jasper Jeffers, who has recently arrived in Lebanon. Brigadier General Edgar Lowndes from the Lebanese army will represent Lebanon. Additional members will include representatives from France, Israel, and the United Nations, as reported by Xinhua news agency on Sunday.

Israel and Hezbollah concluded their nearly 14-month conflict with the implementation of a ceasefire agreement that took effect early Wednesday.

To prepare for the committee's work, Lebanese military sources informed Xinhua that the army has compiled a list of Israel's ceasefire violations, as well as the evacuation warnings issued for residents in southern Lebanon.

The sources also highlighted that Israel continued to breach the ceasefire on Sunday, targeting the Marjeyoun plain, the outskirts of Ibl al-Saqi town, and the villages of Deir Mimas and Yaroun. Furthermore, approximately 20 houses were destroyed in Khiam, a town located in the eastern border area of southern Lebanon.

These strikes occurred a day after two individuals were killed and at least six others injured due to Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, which the Israeli army justified as a response to activities deemed a threat to Israel.
