Kathmandu, April 8 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah reaffirmed that his newly-established government is eager to bolster Kathmandu's connections with friendly nations based on mutual advantages.
During a joint courtesy meeting with ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions from various countries, held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Shah expressed the new government’s desire to enhance collaboration in fields such as development, trade, investment, climate action, and people-to-people interactions. This meeting marked his first engagement with foreign diplomats since taking office on March 27.
According to a release from the Prime Minister's Secretariat, he emphasized Nepal’s long-held commitment to a balanced foreign policy.
"Nepal has consistently pursued a balanced and pragmatic foreign policy. Our external relationships are focused on achieving shared prosperity," Shah stated, showing appreciation to development partners and friendly nations for their ongoing support towards the development of the Himalayan nation.
Underscoring the importance of policy continuity, the Prime Minister remarked that the establishment of a new government does not signify a deviation from past commitments.
"We are steadfast in our commitment to maintaining political stability and ensuring that our policy direction remains consistent and foreseeable," he said. As a new figure in Nepal’s political landscape and representing the relatively new Rastriya Swatantra Party, questions have emerged regarding the foreign policy direction of the new government.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to cultivating an investment-friendly environment, fostering entrepreneurship, and advancing sustainable development. He noted that Nepal aims to integrate more effectively into regional and global economic frameworks in alignment with its national interests.
In light of global circumstances, the Prime Minister pointed out the necessity for peace, highlighting that ongoing conflicts worldwide disproportionately affect ordinary citizens. "Peace must remain our collective priority," he asserted, expressing optimism for collaborative efforts in this regard.
He also emphasized that the safety and welfare of Nepali citizens residing abroad is a top priority for the government.
