Former RAW Chief Endorses India's Thoughtful Strategy in West Asia Crisis
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) Vikram Sood, the former chief of the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW), remarked on Friday that India is pursuing a strategic and measured approach towards the ongoing crisis in West Asia. He emphasized that only the nations directly involved can effectively resolve regional conflicts.
In an interview with IANS, Sood advised against unnecessary external interference in regional matters.
“We are indeed engaging in a very intelligent maneuver here. The challenges of West Asia cannot be addressed by outsiders — it is up to the local populations to manage their own issues. Interference is futile,” he asserted.
Sood also highlighted the critical need for long-term foresight in Intelligence strategies, particularly in a time when new technologies are swiftly reshaping the global security environment.
“How do we discuss Intelligence strategies? We cannot treat it lightly. Intelligence must be relevant even two decades from now; it needs to adapt and remain effective. Governments should thoughtfully approach the integration of AI and related technologies,” he elaborated.
He pointed out that significant geopolitical changes could pose challenges for India in the future. Sood noted that the diminishing influence of a prominent global power might incite instability in international relations.
“You see, there is a superpower whose influence appears to be diminishing. This will inevitably create complications. Our ties with China are also not at their strongest,” he commented.
On the significance of the Raisina Dialogue, India's leading forum on geopolitics and geoeconomics, Sood referred to it as one of the most vital strategic gatherings currently taking place in India.
“I believe this is one of the most significant dialogues happening in our country today. The breadth of topics covered is extensive; they are impactful and future-oriented. I’m pleased that this event is occurring and that it is attracting attention,” he added.
