South Korea: Ruling Party to Select New Floor Leader This Week Amid Martial Law Crisis

Seoul, Dec 9 (NationPress) The ruling People Power Party (PPP) of South Korea declared on Monday that it will appoint a new floor leader this week to take over from Choo Kyung-ho, who resigned after a parliamentary motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol was annulled.
Choo stepped down as the PPP's floor leader shortly after the National Assembly on Saturday was unable to pass a motion to impeach Yoon, aimed at holding him accountable for the recent declaration of martial law.
The impeachment motion was dropped due to insufficient quorum, with only three lawmakers out of the 108-member ruling party participating in the vote, which required a two-thirds majority, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
Choo stated he was resigning to take responsibility for the Assembly's attempt to impeach the president for the third time under the constitutional provisions.
The PPP is set to elect a new floor leader on Thursday, as conveyed by its chief spokesperson Kwak Kyu-taek to reporters.
